Angels Wings

For eh, cl, bsn, hn, tbn, 2pc, vla, 2vc
Duration: 10 minutes

2004

Program Note:

Angels’ Wings was written in the fall of 2004. A central element of the piece is a textural effect; this effect simulates a static chordal structure that is slightly ‘shimmering’ (active internal movement within a stable chord). The chordal structure is loosely based upon the Petroushka chord, but expands upon the idea of polychords/bitonality, and the progression of two separate chords to create one harmonic ‘progression’. I feel very close to this piece partly because it speaks to me at a very personal level and also that it began my departure into a more refined compositional language; the title reflects that sentiment.
